Scars result from the body’s natural healing process. Whether scars are from injury, acne, burns or surgery, we understand they cause concern for many individuals. Skin care can be a key component in the prevention and treatment of scars.
V-Stat Advanced Scar Gel
At Yazdani Aesthetics we often encourage patients to use the V-Stat Advanced Scar Gel from Vivier. This topical gel helps to minimize the appearance of new scars and assists with repairing dry skin. It also aids in preventing the formation of hypertrophic scars, those which are thickened, wide and often raised.
As the skin is healing, the epidermis (outermost layers of the skin) produces high levels of moisture in an attempt to hydrate the scar site. However, most of this moisture evaporates once it reaches the upper layer of the skin. This moisture loss triggers keratinocytes in the skin to produce collagen. Left unchecked, excessive collagen production can lead to abnormal scarring.
Silicone sheets or gel can fully cover the scar treatment site, preventing the moisture from escaping. At the same time, silicone still allows oxygen to permeate the sheet and reach the scar.
