Rhinoplasty in London Ontario

When conducting a rhinoplasty we can hide the incisions inside the nose (a closed procedure), or we can make the incision across the narrow strip of skin that separates the nostrils (the columella). Such incisions enable us to access the inner structural tissues of the nose for reshaping. We sculpt the nose by either moving portions of existing nose cartilage or grafting additional segments of cartilage into the nose from other parts of your body, such as from an ear or a rib. Once we have achieved the desired shape we can re-drape your skin, adjust the size of your nostrils, if necessary, and close the incisions.

While rhinoplasty is mainly a cosmetic procedure, we can also combine it with septoplasty, a functional type of surgery that improves breathing in patients who suffer from a deviated septum. The septum is the vertical complex of bone and cartilage inside your columella that separates your left nostril from your right. When it is displaced to one side, the airflow through the smaller nostril can be obstructed. A severely displaced septum can block a nostril completely. A septoplasty straightens the septum by aligning the bone and removing portions of cartilage while preserving the structural integrity of your nose.

It usually takes one week for a rhinoplasty to heal. But the cartilage in your nose only gradually refines its shape. It may take up to a year for recurring swelling to subside and for your nose to reach its final state.*
